Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, using a spherical ball. The primary objective of the game is to score goals by getting the ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. Players, excluding the goalkeeper, primarily use their feet to maneuver the ball, although they may also use other parts of their body, except for their arms and hands.

The term “football” can refer to different sports in various parts of the world. In most countries outside of North America, “football” commonly refers to what is known as soccer in the U.S. and Canada, which is the globally popular version governed by FIFA. However, in the United States, “football” usually denotes American football, a contact sport characterized by strategic plays and scoring through touchdowns and field goals.

Overall, football is recognized for its passionate following, global competitions—such as the FIFA World Cup—and its ability to bring people together through sport and play.
